By joining Chappy, you enter a legal agreement with us and we process your data in order to provide your service under the terms of that agreement. We suggest you read this in conjunction with our Terms and Conditions of Use.

If you have any questions or comments about this Policy, please feel free to contact us at

2. What information does Chappy collect about me?

Account Creation Data

Chappy is a meeting platform for gay men. To access and use Chappy, you will need to create an account (“Account”). You can do this by logging into your Facebook account, which will allow us to receive certain information about you, such as your:

  1. name;
  2. gender;
  3. photographs;
  4. email address;
  5. date of birth;
  6. Facebook friend list;
  7. work history;
  8. education history;
  9. location; and
  10. the pages that you have “liked” on Facebook

If you log into or access Chappy through your Facebook profile, you may appear on your friends’ Facebook apps as a Chappy user. Remember also to log off Facebook when you leave a device in order to prevent other users from accessing your account.

During the Account creation process, you will be able to select the information that Facebook shares with us, and you can decide not to provide some of the information listed above. There is some basic information that we need to collect from you to make sure that you are not a robot, including your name, photograph, age and gender.

The information we collect about you when you create an Account will be used to create your profile (“Profile”). You also have the opportunity to provide other details about yourself, but these are optional. Your Profile will be available to all users of Chappy. You control your user Profile, and you can edit it at any time by accessing the “Profile” section of Chappy.

For users who are California residents, the data we may collect falls within the following categories of “personal information,” as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  1. A. Identifiers, such as name and location;

  2. B. Personal information, as defined in the California customer records law, such as contact (including email and telephone number) and financial information;

Finally, we want to keep in touch with you to make sure you know about the great promotions and offers we have available. If you’ve told us it’s OK, we will use your email address to send you information on these. You can withdraw this consent at any time via Settings in the App.

3. How long will Chappy keep my data?

We keep your personal information only as long as we need it for legitimate business purposes (as set out below) and as permitted by applicable law.

In practice, we delete or anonymise your information upon deletion of your account (following the safety retention window), unless:

  1. we must keep it to comply with applicable law (for instance, some “traffic data” is kept for one year to comply with statutory data retention obligations);
  2. we must keep it to evidence our compliance with applicable law (for instance, records of consents to our Terms and Conditions of Use, Privacy Policy and other similar consents are kept for five years);
  3. there is an outstanding issue, claim or dispute requiring us to keep the relevant information until it is resolved; or
  4. the information must be kept for our legitimate business interests, such as fraud prevention and enhancing users' safety and security. For example, information may need to be kept to prevent a user who was banned for unsafe behavior or security incidents from opening a new account.

Where Chappy uses machine learning, for example, to help us detect and prevent spam communications on the App (as explained further below), we may need to keep personal information for a longer period than the retention periods explained above, to enable the machine learning to work properly. Where this is the case, we always seek to minimise the amount of personal information that is used and we ensure that it is ring-fenced and kept securely from other user personal information. We regularly review the period for which personal information is required for machine learning purposes and delete any identifiable information when it is no longer required.

4. What information does Chappy collect about me if I’m under 18?

You can only use Chappy if you are aged 18 or over or the age of majority in the country in which you reside if that happens to be greater than 18. That means we do not knowingly collect any information about children, minors or anyone under the age of majority. Nor do we knowingly market to children, minors or anyone under the age of 18. If you are under 18 years old, we request that you do not upload any photos. If we become aware that a child, minor or anyone under the age of 18 has registered with us and provided us with personal data, or is included in an uploaded photo we will take steps to terminate that person’s registration and delete their Profile information from Chappy. If we do delete an Account because you violated our no children rule, we may retain your email and IP address to ensure that you do not try to get around our rules by creating a new Profile.

5. Who does Chappy share information with?

Please see section 11 below for more information on who can access what you post on Chappy. If you post anything that is inconsistent with our Terms and Conditions of Use, we reserve the right to terminate your Account.

To prevent abuse of the app/site, Chappy uses automated decisions to block accounts as part of its anti-spam procedures. In order to do this, our systems check accounts and messages for content that indicates breaches of our Terms and Conditions of Use. If an account or message meets certain criteria that demonstrate that the Terms and Conditions of Use are likely to have been breached, the relevant account will automatically be blocked. All users of accounts that have been blocked will be notified that their account has been blocked and affected users can contact Chappy to contest the decision.

Please note that if your account is blocked, any account(s) that you have on our other group platforms/applications may also be blocked as part of our anti-spam and anti-fraud procedures.
